El Capitan slams Sawx as Bombers go to Series

10/22/09 - GAME 5
Yankees 10, Red Sox 8
C.C. vs Lester looked to be a pitcher's duel. Again the offenses exploded and the arms were ineffective. Boston was nursing a 5-3 lead when NY erupted for 3 in the 6th off of Bard and Delcarmen, all with 2 out. El Capitan doubled, Damon worked out a walk in a classic AB. Both runners executed a perfect double steal, which rattled Del Carmen, who was then greeted to a Tex-message that wrapped around the Pesky pole in right. A-rod was immediately beaned and both benches emptied out. When order was restored the Yanks had tenuous 6-5 lead.

That lead would become insurmountable when the Bombers struck for 4 more in the 7th, as Mon Capitan, Derek Jeter hit a grand slam that almost found it's way to the Mass Pike, which is where most of the fans began heading towards. Boston went down fighting. They scored 2 in the bottom of the 9th off of Mo, who never does well in non save situations. David Ortiz hit is 5th homer in 5 straight games to make it 10-8, but Mo wasn't about to give up anymore. Boston just didn't have enough firepower to keep up with the Bronx Bombers, who will now face the Dodgers in the Fall Classic.

10/20/09 - GAME 4
Red Sox 16, Yankees 10
Another football game. Gaudin and Wakefield started the game. Neither one fooled anyone, except their respective managers, who tapped them to start. Josh Beckett was called out of the pen to save his team's season. With only 3 days rest and fighting fatigue and injury Beckett acted like the true ace that he was and threw almost 5 innings of top notch ball. He gave his team just enough, so they could chip away at the Yankees lead and eventually get to Papelbon, who closed the door. Papi went 4 for 5 and hit a homer in his 4th consecutive game. If his team had any chance to win this thing he'd be the odd on favorite for LCS MVP. Boston avoids the sweep, but there still doesn't seem to be much hope in Beantown.

10/19/09 - Fenway Park - Game 3
Jets 19, Patriots 10...I mean Yanks 19, Red Sox 10
Clay Buchholz gave up 9 runs in 2 innings of work and left his team for dead. Andy Pettitte gave up 4 in 5+, but obviously he was pitching to the scoreboard and not for stats. Aceves came in and was barely effective, but the Bombers had such a huge lead it didn't matter one bit. A-Rod hit 3 A-bombs and had 7 RBI's. Big Papi hit another homer to give him 3 in 3 games, all Red Sox losses. The Bombers now have a commanding 3-0 lead and have total control of this series.

10/17/09 - GAME 2
Yankees 4, Red Sox 3
Different day, same scenario. Jonathan Lester was brilliant for 7 innings. Billy Wags undid a 2 run lead and Saito blew the game. A.J. Burnett was pretty good going 7 and giving up 2. Philip Hughes again let his post season nerves get the best of him by giving up what looked to be a big insurance run in the 8th to Boston, when Papi again hit a mammoth solo shot. The bottom of the 8th saw Jorge' Posada hit a 3 run pinch hit homer to put the Bombers up 4-3. Mo came on and did what Mo does best: snuff the life out of the opposition. Bombers take a 2-0 lead in the series.

10/16/09 - Yankee Stadium
GAME 1 Yankees 5, Red Sox 3
C.C. and Beckett matched each other pitch for pitch and both exited the game with the score knotted at 3. The difference was the Red Sox pen imploded. Big Papi hit a monster shot to lead off the 8th and to give the Sawx a 3-2 lead. New York scored 2 in the 9th as Melky Cabrerra hit a walk off 2 run shot off Ramirez. Second guessers wonder why manager Weiss did not have Paplebon in the game. Yanks drew first blood.
